An aphorism is a formulation in which dense meaning is expressed in a few words. The Gurdjieff teaching is rich with aphorisms. These are two of our favorites:

"There is little difference in the experiences of different people -- the difference consists in what they do with them. The importance of our first food is not so much in the quantity and quality of it as in the digesting of it. Experiences are another form of food; from this point of view it does not matter as much what happens as how we take experiences."

"When a man awakes he can die. When he dies he can be born."
